Compensation:

Miller Timber Services, Inc. holds multiple wildland fire agreements and contracts. Wildland Firefighters/Forestry Technicians may perform multiple work types and classifications in their employment with the Company. This diversity of work ensures the highest number of work days!

Contract Type: USFS Wildland Firefighting – Service Contract Act (SCA)
current incorporated Federal Wage Determination in 2025 awarded contracts
(Wage Determination NO: 1995-0221 Rev No. 69).

Protective Service Occupations-Firefighter Western Region is $28.73 Base Fire Rate. Regular time is Base Fire Rate plus $4.93/hr. Health and Welfare for the first 40 hours of the work week ($28.73 + $4.93=$33.66/hr.). Overtime is calculated on the base fire rate ($28.73 x 1.5=$43.10/hr.)

 

Contract Type: Local and State Wildland Firefighting Agreements
Contract dependent, pay rates will be dependent on work type and classification. Contracts are in negotiation for award. Rates to be determined (All compensation will be discussed and disclosed prior to any work being performed under this job type and classification.)

 

Contract Type: Project work, fuels reduction, prescribed burning, hazard mitigation activities, standby and staging and Miller Timber travel.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 Years old
  • Travel
  • Willingness to continuously learn new skills
  • Remain drug-free (includes marijuana) and submit to testing upon request
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Pass physical fitness test-3 Mile hike with 45lb pack in less than 45 min

Job Duties:

  • Contain, control and suppress wildland fire
  • Rapid on-call deployment preparedness for wildfire and emergency incidents
  • Utilize hand tools and equipment, such as pulaski, shovel, hazel hoe, ax, and chainsaw
  • Perform basic fireline activities including line construction, moving dirt, hose layout, cut, scatter, and removal of fuels using hand tools
  • Coordinate as an organized crew during wildfires and prescribed burns holding the line, patrolling, monitoring fire behavior, and performing mop-up operations
  • Operate outdoors in remote and rugged conditions with extended travel and overnight camping.
  • Abide by all safety standards to mitigate risk while on assignment
